Job Description

Opening with a leading Defense & Aerospace company for their office in Mysuru.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain blanking tools, stage tools, and forming dies.
  • Perform tool proving as per engineering documentation and carry out necessary tool corrections.
  • Support production and tool maintenance, including tool selection and troubleshooting forming defects.
  • Lead new component development during trial production runs; update lesson learnt documents and history cards.
  • Plan and execute machine settings on Hydraulic Press, Mechanical Press, and Press Brake within stipulated time.
  • Set up press machines as per die setup parameters (e.g., shut height, slide tonnage, cushion pressure).
  • Load/unload dies or tools from presses, perform quick die changes, and work on downtime reduction.
  • Drive improvements in material saving, process optimization, tool life enhancement, and productivity.
  • Monitor and reduce rejections and reworks.
  • Manage spares and consumables, ensuring efficient usage and cost control.
  • Track and report Plan vs Actual performance.
  • Ensure timely completion of production targets (daily/weekly/monthly).
  • Train team members to increase productivity, skill, and support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure discipline and 5S adherence on the shop floor.
  • Carry out daily preventive maintenance as per plan.
  • Ensure the safety of personnel working in shifts.
  • Maintain work instructions and records.
  • Timely update and maintain logbook with shift details.
  • Ensure proper handling of machines, tools, and instruments by shift personnel.
  • Identify non-conformities and product deviations, initiate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform part validation using PCMM, inspection gauges, and fixtures.
  • Reports directly to Shift In-Charge / Manager Manufacturing.
  • Authorized to allot or change work across different work centers in the Sheet Metal Shop.
  • Authorized to inform relevant personnel in case of emergencies.

Preferred candidate profile:

1. COMPETENCY

a) Qualification:

  • Diploma in Tool & Die Making

b) Experience:

  • 35 years in Press Shop / Tool Room / Aerospace Industry

c) Knowledge & Critical Skills Required:

  • Strong knowledge of press tools, forming dies, hydraulic and mechanical presses, and part forming.
  • Expertise in reading engineering drawings.
  • Awareness of AS 9100 standards.
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of jigs, fixtures, tools, dies, and forming machines.

d) People / Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal relations and team-building abilities.
  • Effective in conflict resolution and decision-making.
  • Skilled in technical communication and guiding team members.
