Role Overview:
The Technical Director - Energy will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and business development support to drive the growth and delivery of projects within the Energy sub-
business line under the Environment, Water, and Energy (EWE) business. The role requires strong technical capabilities, a deep understanding of the energy sector, and the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Provide thought leadership and strategic direction for energy-related projects, including renewable energy, power systems, grid modernization, energy transition, and decarbonization.
Ensure technical excellence, innovation, and compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
Oversee the development of feasibility studies, engineering designs, energy modelling, and project execution strategies.
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in energy systems, providing guidance to teams and clients.
Project Delivery & Quality Assurance: Lead and manage complex, multi-disciplinary energy projects from concept to completion, ensuring successful delivery on time and within budget.
Establish and implement best-in-class project management, risk mitigation, and quality assurance frameworks.
Provide technical reviews and approvals for key project deliverables.
Business Development & Client Engagement: Support the development and execution of growth strategies for the Energy sub-business line, aligning with regional and global priorities.
Engage with clients, identify opportunities, and lead proposals/bids for major energy projects.
Foster and expand relationships with government agencies, utilities, investors, and private sector
clients.
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and technical forums.
Team Leadership & Mentoring: Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team, ensuring knowledge sharing and skills development.
Promote a collaborative culture, working closely with cross-functional teams across Environment, Water, and Energy.
Support recruitment and talent acquisition strategies to strengthen technical capabilities in the
energy sector.
Strategic Planning & Innovation: Stay ahead of emerging trends, technologies, and policies in the energy sector.
Lead initiatives to drive innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability in energy projects.
Support internal knowledge-sharing, research, and development initiatives.
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, EE Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field (Masters or Ph.D. preferred).
Professional certification (e.g., CEng, PE, PMP, Chartered Engineer) is an advantage.
Minimum 18 years of experience in the energy sector, with a focus on renewables, power systems, or energy infrastructure.
Proven track record of leading large-scale energy projects in consulting, EPC, or utility environments.
Strong knowledge of power generation, transmission & distribution, energy storage, and decarbonization strategies.
Experience with financial modelling, regulatory frameworks, and energy policy advisory is a plus.
Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and business development skills.
