Job Description

Role & responsibilities Position Summary: The Architect, Database Administration will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of application technology stacks that support our critical business processes. This role involves hands-on architecture and design for solutions that empower C&S Wholesale Grocers' business operations, applications, and technology portfolio, including the development of new products, features, and integrations. This position is crucial in driving technology innovation and ensuring the robustness and scalability of our database infrastructure. Responsibilities: Essential Functions: Systems Design and Build (30%): Define and architect robust infrastructure for the design and integration of specific business domains, aligning with overall business strategies and information requirements. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and improve architecture, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with business goals and operational requirements. Effectively communicate technology needs, strategies, and roadmaps to stakeholders and team members. Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of cloud-native solutions, guiding software engineers in modern technology adoption and adherence to architectural policies. Analyze complex business requirements and collaborate with stakeholders to develop comprehensive system design specifications. Design, build, and implement scalable and reliable software systems and applications tailored to organizational needs. Architect and implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity. Manage the installation, patching, and cloning of applications and database systems (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) across Development, QA, and Production environments, particularly on Oracle Engineered Systems (Exadata). Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies for critical application systems. Optimize existing systems for enhanced performance and adaptability to evolving business requirements. Integration and Automation (20%): Develop and implement real-time reporting capabilities using replication and streaming tools. Integrate diverse software applications and data sources to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability. Collaborate with supply chain teams to optimize warehouse management systems and processes. Integrate application systems with various devices such as printers, scanners, and mobile devices to enhance operational efficiency. Governance, Testing, and Quality Assurance (20%): Lead the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes, and performance metrics to ensure solutions deliver maximum value. Create and execute performance and load testing plans to guarantee system stability and reliability. Monitor system logs and user feedback proactively to identify and resolve potential issues. Ensure strict compliance with industry standards, regulations, and security protocols. Implement and manage security tools, monitoring for and addressing vulnerabilities promptly. Research and Development (20%): Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices relevant to database administration and architecture. Evaluate new tools and software to drive continuous improvement and maintain a competitive edge. Engage with industry partners to explore potential technological innovations and collaborations. Define and lead technology proof of concepts, conducting hands-on prototyping of new technology solutions. Establish target state technology architecture and develop strategic roadmaps for future implementation. Technical Support and Training (10%): Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for critical system issues. Continuously refine and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business processes and architecture. Preferred candidate profile Required Skills: Extensive knowledge of various database technologies, including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, and MongoDB. Proficiency in middleware systems such as Tomcat, WebLogic, IIS, Apache Web Server, and NGINX, with a comprehensive understanding of existing and emerging platforms. Strong scripting and programming skills in languages such as Shell scripts, Python, Java, and PL/SQL. Experience working with ERP systems like EBS, SAP, or Oracle NetSuite. Expertise in data integration tools, including OSB, ODI, Golden Gate, Microsoft Integration Services, and Apache NiFi. Solid understanding of web technologies and services (REST, SOAP). Familiarity with inventory management software, such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS). Knowledge of cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Preferred Skills: Certifications related to database administration or cloud platforms. Experience with agile development methodologies.
