Job Description

As a Senior Materials Engineer at Garrett, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative solutions for next-generation materials focused on electrification, sustainability, and turbocharger materials. Your responsibilities will include: - Utilizing your expertise in research and development of magnetic materials, physical and mechanical metallurgy, advanced characterization techniques, and simulation skills on tools like thermocalc, Procast & JmatPro. - Identifying gaps in magnetic materials and manufacturing process technology and proposing solutions for advancing new technologies with high-performance magnets. - Developing proposals and presenting new ideas related to both soft and hard magnets. - Solving problems throughout the innovation, development, and implementation phases of new material technologies. - Coordinating activities with cross-functional teams, external partners, and the ecosystem to ensure timely project milestones completion. - Contributing high-quality intellectual property that holds significance in both business and technology domains. - Participating and presenting in internal innovation and ideation events. - Identifying open innovation opportunities with universities and external institutes. - Leveraging lab equipment for advanced material characterization and microstructural analysis. - Providing technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project. - Documenting technical data generated by the assigned project following engineering policies and procedures. Qualifications required for this role include: - MTech/PhD in materials science and engineering. - MTech with 4+ years or PhD of relevant experience in research and development. Preferred Skills: - Strong knowledge of physical metallurgy, mechanical metallurgy, structure-property correlations, and advanced characterization techniques. - Exposure to advanced high-performance metals, magnetic materials, and silicon steels. - Self-motivated and passionate about bringing own ideas to applications. - Networking ability across the organization to understand critical business problems. - Strong oral and written communication skills. - Good interpersonal skills; flexibility to adapt to individuals with different backgrounds. - Ability to document, plan, and execute programs. - Established project management skills while handling multiple projects.
