Team Manager HVDC System Design

Location:

Role Overview

The Team Manager HVDC System Design is responsible for leading a high-performing engineering group focused on HVDC and advanced power system solutions. The role involves strategic planning, operational management, resource allocation, competency development, and people leadership. The position requires strong collaboration across cross-functional engineering teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders. The manager will also support tender activities, risk assessment, pricing evaluations, and act as a key decision influencer within the local management team.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

  • Lead medium- to long-term resource planning based on tender and project forecasts.
  • Ensure departmental KPIs are achieved (on-time delivery, first-pass yield, productivity).
  • Manage financial performance and budget adherence of the team.
  • Review and approve techno-economic proposals and assess associated risks and opportunities.
  • Conduct routine reviews with project teams, suppliers, and other engineering groups.
  • Recruit and onboard engineering resources as per headcount planning.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards, integrity, and health & safety guidelines.

People Management

  • Lead performance evaluations, goal-setting, and regular review cycles for direct reports.
  • Identify development needs within the team and drive relevant capability-building initiatives.
  • Plan succession strategy and maintain key competencies within the group.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership support to engineering team members.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the business unit’s strategic planning, long-term goals, and operational roadmap.
  • Identify new opportunities for scope expansion and technological competence enhancement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen operational effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a Line Manager/Team Leader managing 10+ engineers.
  • Foundational knowledge of HVDC, FACTS, or Substation systems.
  • Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written).

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience in HVDC/FACTS systems or primary design for HVDC/FACTS/substations.
  • Understanding of power system studies and calculations.
  • Ability to manage tender pricing models and evaluate techno-economic parameters.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical ability, and risk assessment capability.
