Job Description

Position Purpose:

The Team Lead will oversee the daily operations of the drafting team in India, ensuring high-quality deliverables for Australian clients. This role requires strong leadership, technical drafting knowledge, and excellent communication skills to manage a team and maintain seamless collaboration across time zones and cultures.

As Team Lead you will also be responsible for producing detailed mechanical drawings and documentation to support engineering and manufacturing processes.

Role & Responsibilities:

1. Position:

  • Team Leadership & Management

- Lead and mentor a team of draftspersons.

- Allocate resources and manage workloads to meet project deadlines.

- Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.

  • Project Coordination

- Liaise with Australian Drafting Coordinator to understand project requirements.

- Ensure timely delivery of accurate and compliant drafting outputs.

- Monitor project progress and resolve issues proactively.

- Conduct self-checks and peer reviews to ensure drawing accuracy and completeness.

- Identify and report potential design or drafting issues.

- Monitor and control the schedule, budget, and quality of work that is assigned to you and/or your team.

  • Quality Assurance

- Implement and maintain drafting standards aligned with Australian codes and practices.

- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

- Drive continuous improvement in drafting processes and tools.

  • Communication & Collaboration

- Act as the primary point of contact between the Indian office and Australian stakeholders.

- Facilitate regular meetings and updates across teams.

- Manage cultural and time zone differences effectively.

- Maintain clear and professional communication via email, Microsoft Teams, or other

company-approved platforms.

- Attend regular virtual check-ins with the Engineering Services Manager.

- Promptly respond to messages and requests to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Create Detailed Technical Drawings

- Prepare detailed 2D and 3D mechanical models and drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor).

- Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and design intent to create accurate technical

drawings.

- Produce fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings.

  • Interpret Engineering Data

- Read and interpret mechanical design schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.

- Translate conceptual designs into accurate and practical drawings.

  • Apply Australian Standards
  • Ensure all drawings comply with relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS1100 for technical drawing).
  • Maintain consistency in line types, dimensioning, tolerances, and symbols.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Welding symbols, and surface finishes
  • Working knowledge of appropriate Australian Standards but not limited to such as AS4024. 3610, AS

4024.3611, AS1654 and AS1657.

  • Time Zone Coordination

- Align working hours to overlap with the Australian team (e.g., 1 PM IST 10:30 PM AEST).

- Be available for scheduled meetings, design reviews, and urgent requests during Australian

business hours.

  • Self-Management & Accountability

- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of accuracy

and productivity.

- Take initiative in resolving drafting issues and seeking clarification when needed.

Education, Qualification & Experience:

- Min 5 years experience within a similar role, ideally in bulk material handling background or heavy industrial/mining industry

- 12+ years of experience in drafting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role

- Strong understanding of Australian building codes and standards.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

- Proven ability to manage cross-cultural teams and remote collaboration.

- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

- Showing proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D Inventor software

- Being proficient in Microsoft Office

- Obtained drawing and design experience

- Belt Conveyor Design experience
