Tax Advisor (U.S.A)

A growing business advisory firm in the Kansas is seeking a Tax Advisor with strong client service skills and technical expertise to lead its tax function. This individual will manage the end-to-end preparation of U.S. tax returns, advise clients on tax strategy, and play a pivotal role in building a scalable tax practice. The firm serves small and mid-sized businesses across industries, and this role offers the opportunity to work directly with owners, helping them achieve clarity and confidence in their financial future.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review individual and business tax returns, from data entry through finalization.
• Provide proactive tax planning and strategic advising to clients to optimize outcomes.
• Communicate with clients in a clear, approachable, and service-oriented manner.
• Stay up to date on tax law and regulatory changes relevant to small and mid-sized businesses.
• Where licensed, sign off on returns and ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with the leadership team to define the vision for the tax function.
• Build, mentor, and manage a tax team over time to support firm growth.

Requirements

• Professional background: Enrolled Agent, CPA, or equivalent relevant tax preparation experience.
• Technical expertise: Proven ability to prepare and file individual and small business tax returns accurately and efficiently.
• Advisory skills: Experience in tax planning and client strategy beyond compliance.
• Client service orientation: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate tax concepts clearly to non-experts.
• Remote readiness: Ability to work independently and be promptly available for scheduled and ad-hoc client calls.
• Leadership potential (preferred): Experience managing or building a tax team is highly desirable.
• Licensure (preferred): Authorized to sign off on returns in applicable jurisdictions.
