Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated

Linux Administrator

to join our IT Infrastructure team. The candidate will be responsible for managing, securing, and optimizing Linux-based systems across a mission-critical environment. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to support operations in a

24x7 environment with rotational shifts and on-call responsibilities

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc)
  • Perform system administration tasks including user management, permissions, and system hardening
  • Monitor system performance and ensure high availability, reliability, and security
  • Manage patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
  • Manage storage solutions (LVM, RAID, NFS, SAN/NAS)
  • Configure and troubleshoot network services (DNS, DHCP, SSH, FTP, NTP, SMTP, etc)
  • Work with virtualization and container platforms (VMware, KVM, Docker, Kubernetes if applicable)
  • Automate tasks using scripting languages (Bash, Python, etc)
  • Maintain logs and monitoring tools (Nagios, PRTG, etc)
  • Collaborate with developers, security teams, and other IT personnel to support infrastructure requirements
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and security standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4-6 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience (adjustable based on your requirement)
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and command-line tools
  • Experience with system hardening and security best practices
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash; Python optional but preferred)
  • Experience with package management (yum, apt, rpm)
  • Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, firewalls, routing)
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware/KVM)
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef - optional)

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Exposure to DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines
  • Knowledge of container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Linux certification (RHCSA/RHCE/CompTIA Linux+)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies

Working Conditions

  • Should be available for 24*7 rotational shifts
  • Should have strong interpersonal communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders and peer groups across the locations of Coherent.
