Department Overview We are currently seeking a backup engineer to join our efforts to define, design and lead the operation of the backup services & technologies located across global geographies within our company.
The Backup technologies include Veritas Netbackup, Commvault Cloud, Data Domains, Oracle and SQL backups, NAS file system Backups and more The candidate will be responsible for the availability of MSI Data protection, will update the standards and procedures, and will lead toward providing a reliable high availability, cost effective, secured and efficient systems for our internal clients and applications. Operating environments include AWS Cloud, OCI Cloud, GCP, and On premise systems using Linux/Windows, bare metal servers, VMware and other virtual environments. Job Description
Responsibilities and role :
As the service owner you will be accountable for the backup operations, continual improvement, and cost and vendor management, in order to have a highly available, reliable, serviceable, secure & efficient environment for our Internal customers.
Key Duties And Responsibilities

Oversee and manage all backup and recovery operations, proactively identifying and mitigating risks while capitalizing on opportunities

Serve as the company subject matter expert for global backups and recovery environments.

Maintain a project orientated approach, whilst keeping a keen eye on standards, next generation architecture, solution improvements and cost analysis.

Advise on technology trends and standards.

Guide technical staff on assignments to achieve desired outcomes and deliverables.

Drive projects and initiatives working with backup admins and internal customers

Provide expert support and analysis of complex problems including 3rd level support and guidance to the support staff.

Ensure operating standards and procedures are defined and adhered to by others.

Identify opportunities for infrastructure and process improvements.

Deliver technology evaluations, and solution proposals ( on M&A).

Define and deliver on capacity planning analysis and monthly reporting.
Adaptable to other IT infrastructure tasks within infrastructure teams defined by the business
Basic Requirements
Essential Skills/Abilities

Has 5+ years experience, having held a high technical level position for the below requirements .

Has experience and skills to lead a global team of backup administrators
-
Given the importance of the backup, recovery and availability needs, the candidate should be aware of the processes and ensure data availability during normal operations, High Availability failover and Disaster Recovery events.

With a significant on-prem and Cloud environments, candidates should have an in-depth understanding of commercial backup offerings of the major vendors. Have experience of providing data protection for databases such as SQL Server, and Oracle

Providing in-depth investigations and root cause analysis of incidents and outages

Provide strategic direction and ensure the delivery of technical based projects

Have a flexible approach to working hours whilst part of a global organisation.

Have experience in Multi-cloud environment backups
Desirable Skills/Abilities (but Not Essential)

Understand the tiers of long term archive storage solutions available, both within the Data Centre and the major cloud providers such as AWS and OCI

Experienced with ITIL Service Design

Developed and maintained solution roadmaps

Have been involved in defining backup/recovery processes, as well as supporting audit requirements.
