Surgical Oncologist

About the Role

diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of solid tumors

You will be responsible for performing complex cancer surgeries, managing pre- and post-operative care, monitoring patients for recurrence, and providing follow-up support. You will also contribute to patient education, support clinical research activities, and ensure adherence to best practices in oncologic care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform surgical procedures for the treatment of a wide range of cancers including breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, gynecologic, and soft tissue malignancies.
  • Evaluate patients through physical examinations, imaging, and biopsy results to determine the best surgical options.
  • Collaborate with the oncology care team to develop and execute individualized, multidisciplinary treatment plans.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including monitoring for complications and ensuring optimal recovery.
  • Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, surgical options, prognosis, and treatment outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with medical and institutional standards.
  • Participate in tumor board meetings, case reviews, and clinical discussions to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in surgical oncology and contribute to ongoing clinical education and research efforts.
  • Mentor junior residents, fellows, or medical students, if applicable.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • MBBS and MS (General Surgery) with MCh or DNB in Surgical Oncology (or equivalent recognized training).
  • Valid medical license to practice in [Insert State/Region].
  • 1 to 5 years of post-qualification experience in a recognized cancer center or hospital setting.
  • Proficient in various cancer surgeries such as tumor excisions, lymph node dissections, mastectomies, colectomies, and minimally invasive oncologic surgeries.
  • Strong foundation in cancer biology, treatment planning, and surgical oncology principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team-based care model.
  • Compassionate and patient-centric approach to treatment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working as a

    Surgical Oncology Consultant

    or

    Oncologic Surgeon

    .
  • Exposure to robotic or laparoscopic surgical techniques in oncology.
  • Interest in clinical research, publications, or academic contributions.
