Job Description

Sr. Manager / Manager - Battery COC - Electra Sr. Manager / Manager Battery COC Sr. Manager / Manager Battery COC

Sr. Manager / Manager Battery Centre of Competence (CoC)

The Battery-CoC will serve as the strategic and technical authority for all lithium ion battery system domains across the organization. This role leads the development, validation, standardization, and industrialization of battery pack systems , ensuring world-class safety, performance, cost efficiency, and scalability for electric vehicle applications. The Battery CoC will build organizational capability, foster innovation, and act as the internal consultant and decision-maker for all battery-related programs, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with the company s long-term electrification strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic & Technical Leadership

Establish and lead the Battery CoC as the organization s knowledge and capability center.
Define and execute the battery technology roadmap in alignment with business goals and EV product strategy.
Drive cross-functional collaboration across engineering, sourcing, testing, and production to achieve performance, safety, and cost targets.
Evaluate and onboard emerging technologies, chemistries, and suppliers to maintain technology leadership.

Cell Selection & Evaluation cell selection framework based on customer and vehicle-level requirements considering: Chemistry, energy density, form factor

Environmental, electrical, and mechanical operating conditions

Reliability, lifecycle, and thermal characteristics

Lead benchmarking, qualification, and approval of new cells, chemistries, and suppliers.

Battery Pack Design, Integration & Standardization Provide technical direction for battery pack architecture , design guidelines, and vehicle-level integration.

Approve design concepts, drawings, and validation strategies across all platforms.

Develop and enforce organizational design standards and best practices Pack design and layout Thermal and electrical systems Safety mechanisms, interlocks, and diagnostics

Handling and operational procedures for lithium-ion packs

material selection strategy for enclosures, busbars, insulation, and thermal components. Validation, Safety & Compliance

Oversee Design Validation Plans (DVPs) and ensure all test and validation activities meet internal and statutory requirements.

DFMEA, PFMEA, and safety reviews to ensure robust design and manufacturability.

Ensure compliance with global standards such as AIS-156, UN38.3, IEC 62660, ISO 26262, and BIS requirements.

Develop and maintain SOPs, SDS, work instructions , and safety documentation. Failure Analysis, Benchmarking & Innovation failure root cause analysis and institutionalize learning across projects. Design of Experiments (DOE) and simulation-based studies to optimize product reliability and performance. and identify opportunities for cost, weight, and energy efficiency improvement. Foster a culture of innovation and IP generation in the domain of battery technologies. Cross-functional Enablement & Governance

Act as the technical authority and approver for all battery-related design gates, reviews, and supplier decisions.

Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams for industrialization, localization, and vendor development

Collaborate with aftersales and service teams for field issue resolution and continuous product enhancement.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: M.Tech / B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, Thermal, or Energy Systems Engineering.

Experience: 10-15 years in Lithium-ion battery system design, validation, and industrialization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing multidisciplinary teams.

Technical Competencies:

Expert in Li-ion chemistry, BMS systems, thermal management, and HV architecture.
