1.Job Objective :-
To ensure safe use of ionizing radiation by enforcing AERB regulations, protecting workers, patients, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards, and maintaining compliance, training, monitoring, and emergency preparedness within the facility.
2.Key Role & Responsibilities :- 1. Regulatory Compliance & Licensing To Ensure compliance with AERB guidelines under the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004. o Assist in obtaining and renewing AERB licenses for radiology equipment. o Maintain records related to installation, use, and maintenance of radiological equipment. o Coordinate with AERB for periodic inspections and approvals.
2. Radiation Safety & Monitoring o Monitor occupational exposure of staff using personal dosimeters (TLD badges). o Ensure area radiation levels are within permissible limits. o Conduct regular radiation surveys and maintain dose records. o Oversee shielding adequacy and equipment testing (e.g., leakage, scatter).
3. Training & Awareness o Train radiology personnel on radiation hazards, protection practices, and emergency procedures. o Conduct periodic safety drills and awareness sessions.
4. Quality Assurance o Implement and supervise Quality Assurance (QA) protocols for imaging equipment as per AERB requirements. o Coordinate equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and performance testing.
5. Radiation Incident Management o Develop and maintain emergency procedures for radiation accidents or overexposures. o Investigate and report any radiation-related incidents or overexposures to AERB.
6. Documentation & Reporting o Maintain logs and reports of radiation surveys, QA tests, incident investigations, and employee exposure records. o Prepare and submit periodic safety status reports to AERB. Skills Required: Sound knowledge of radiation physics, biological effects of radiation, and protection techniques Familiarity with AERB regulations and QA standards Good communication for training and awareness Attention to detail and safety-oriented mindset Ability to handle emergencies and report compliantly References: AERB Safety Code No. AERB/RF-MED/SC-1 (Rev.1) Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004 ¢ AERB e-LORA portal guidelines
3.Qualification & Experience Required :-
Eligibility & Qualifications: ¢ Educational Qualification: DME /BE/ BTech or Radiological Physics OR Degree/Diploma in Radiological Technology with RSO Certification. (NDT Level 2) ¢ RSO Approval: Must be approved by AERB for radiology under Schedule-III of the AERB Safety Code. ¢ Training Required: Must have completed an AERB-recognized Radiation Safety Officer course specific to diagnostic radiology.
