Solar & Electrical Design Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Perform detailed energy yield assessments, system sizing, and layout planning for rooftop, ground-mount, and utility-scale PV projects using tools like PVSyst, Helios 3D, or AutoCAD.
• Design the entire solar electrical infrastructure, including module selection, string sizing, inverter selection, DC cable sizing, and AC interconnection up to the point of coupling.
• Develop preliminary mechanical layouts for module mounting systems, considering site-specific factors like wind loads, shade analysis, and tilt angles.
• Generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all PV components and support the procurement team with technical specifications and vendor evaluations.
• Create and manage complete design packages, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), array layouts, wire schedules, equipment specifications, and design reports.
• Design and engineer low-voltage and medium-voltage (LV/MV) electrical distribution systems, including main panels, sub-panels, transformers, switchgear, and protective relays.
• Conduct detailed electrical load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and voltage drop studies to ensure system stability and compliance
• Design comprehensive grounding, bonding, and lightning protection systems for the entire project site.
• Specify and size power and control cables, conduits, cable trays, and other raceway systems according to NEC/IEC standards.
• Perform or assist with protective device coordination studies.
• Ensure all designs strictly adhere to relevant electrical codes
• Collaborate closely with Civil/Structural, Project Management, and Installation teams to integrate the electrical design seamlessly with overall project execution.
• Provide technical support and clarification to construction teams during the installation and commissioning phases, and review as-built documentation.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) is mandatory
• Expertise in AutoCAD (2D/3D), MS Office Suite, and solar design tools PVSyst, Sketchup. Familiarity with ETAP for electrical analysis is must
• Deep understanding of PV system components, grid interconnection requirements, and LV/MV electrical principles
