Job Description – Import Export Accountant Position Title: Import Export Accountant Department: Finance & Accounts Reports To: Finance Manager / Director Job Overview The Import Export Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate records of all international trade transactions. This includes handling documentation, monitoring shipments, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, coordinating with logistics, and managing the financial accounting of imports and exports. The role ensures smooth flow of trade operations while optimizing cost and maintaining compliance with statutory requirements. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate books of accounts for import and export transactions. Prepare and verify invoices, bills of entry, shipping bills, packing lists, and other customs documents. Ensure compliance with import-export laws, taxation rules, GST, customs duty, and other government regulations. Monitor and reconcile Letter of Credit (LC), Bank Guarantee (BG), and foreign remittances. Handle foreign currency transactions, exchange rates, and related accounting. Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, suppliers, and banks for documentation and payment processing. Track shipment status and update accounting records accordingly. File periodic returns/reports related to import-export, GST, and customs. Support in preparing MIS reports on import/export expenses, duty, and logistics cost. Assist auditors and government authorities during inspections or audits. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Finance. Proven experience (2–5 years) in import-export accounting and documentation. Strong knowledge of customs procedures, GST, IGST, and duty structures. Familiarity with Tally/ERP systems, MS Excel, and accounting software. Good communication and coordination skills with vendors, banks, and government authorities. Attention to detail and ability to work under strict timelines. Key Competencies Knowledge of international trade finance and accounting practices. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
