Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  1. Plan, supervise, and execute all blasting and painting activities in accordance with project specifications and standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
  2. Ensure surface preparation and coating application meets required Dry Film Thickness (DFT), profile, and adhesion standards.
  3. Coordinate daily tasks and resources with production teams, project managers, and quality personnel to ensure timely project execution.
  4. Monitor and maintain blasting and painting equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
  5. Ensure safe operations in the paint shop and yard, adhering to HSE standards and PPE compliance.
  6. Track material usage and optimize paint and consumable consumption while maintaining quality.
  7. Maintain accurate records of paint usage, DFT measurements, environmental conditions, and quality checks.
  8. Conduct inspections and prepare documentation for internal quality control and third-party/client inspections.
  9. Handle painting procedure approvals, Pre-Qualification Tests (PQT), and sample testing with external labs as required.
  10. Identify causes of rework or defects and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  11. Coordinate with the Purchase team to ensure timely procurement and delivery of paints, abrasives, and other consumables.
  12. Support in forecasting paint and consumable needs and maintaining optimal inventory levels.
  13. Provide technical support during audits, inspections, and Pre-Dispatch Inspections (PDI).
  14. Ensure all documentation is maintained in compliance with ISO/IMS or customer-specific requirements.
  15. Lead or assist in training programs related to blasting and painting techniques, safety, and quality standards.

Preferred candidate profile

Familiarity with standards like SSPC, NACE, ISO 8501, and ASTM related to blasting and coating.

Blasting Techniques - Proficient in abrasive blasting, shot blasting, or grit blasting, including media selection and profile specification.

Painting & Coating Systems - Understanding of industrial coatings, including epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich primers, and fireproofing systems.

Coating Application Methods - Experience with airless spray, brush/roller application, and plural-component systems.

Coating Inspection & Testing - Competency in using tools like DFT gauges, holiday detectors, and adhesion testers.

Familiar with inspection procedures as per SSPC-PA2, ISO 19840, etc.

Environmental & Safety Compliance - Knowledge of HSE standards (e.g., confined space entry, fume extraction, PPE requirements) in coating operations.

Material & Equipment Handling - Familiar with blasting pots, compressors, spray pumps, and coating storage protocols.
