Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  1. Interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications to guide shop floor activities.
  2. Plan and schedule fabrication work as per project timelines and resource availability.
  3. Monitor daily production activities to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and delivery standards.
  4. Coordinate with design, planning, quality, and procurement teams to resolve technical and material issues.
  5. Supervise fabrication of structural, piping, or mechanical components as per project requirements.
  6. Ensure effective manpower deployment and machine utilization to achieve production targets.
  7. Monitor welding activities, joint preparation, fit-up, and dimensional accuracy of fabricated assemblies.
  8. Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as ASME, AWS, ISO, or customer-specific codes.
  9. Implement process improvements to optimize cycle time, reduce rework, and improve efficiency.
  10. Ensure proper documentation and traceability of fabrication processes, including inspection and test reports (ITPs).
  11. Work closely with the QA/QC team during inspections, stage clearances, and customer audits.
  12. Maintain workplace safety and ensure strict adherence to HSE guidelines.
  13. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions in case of deviations or rework.
  14. Track material consumption and assist in inventory control for plates, pipes, welding consumables, and fixtures.
  15. Support in cost estimation and technical inputs for bids, if required.
  16. Train and guide fabrication teams on work instructions, technical specifications, and safety protocols.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Technical Expertise
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes such as cutting, bending, welding, fitting, and assembly.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, welding symbols, and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with fabrication standards and codes (ASME, AWS, ISO, DIN, etc.).
  • Production Planning & Execution
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate fabrication activities to meet project timelines.
  • Skilled in resource management, including manpower, machines, and materials.
  • Hands-on experience in executing shop floor operations with efficiency.
  • Welding Knowledge
  • Good knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, MIG, TIG, SAW) and consumables.
  • Understanding of WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) and WPQRs (Welder Performance Qualification Records).
  • Experience in supervising weld fit-ups, joint preparation, and visual inspections.
  • Quality & Compliance
  • Ensures adherence to quality standards and fabrication tolerances.
  • Coordinates with QA/QC teams for inspections, stage-wise clearances, and documentation.
  • Capable of identifying defects and supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions.
