Technical Writers at Lightcast are critical connectors between product, engineering, implementation, support, training, and our end users. As a Senior Technical Writer, you will serve as a thought leader and strategic contributor within the Documentation function responsible for creating, maintaining, and scaling technical product documentation that supports Light casts data-rich software platforms. You will work across multiple product lines to ensure documentation is accurate, accessible, and supports internal and external understanding of how Lightcast products and labor market data work.
You will partner cross-functionally to ensure documentation is embedded in the product lifecycle, supports self-service, and empowers customer-facing teams. You will also contribute to the development of documentation standards, tools, and processes that allow us to scale quality content across teams and time zones.
Major Responsibilities
- Own the creation and delivery of Light casts technical product documentation, including user guides, platform overviews, data explanations, integration walkthroughs, and internal knowledge articles.
- Drive clarity and understanding of complex labor market datasets and platform functionality through we'll-organized, user-focused content that meets the needs of both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Support teams to identify documentation needs early in the development lifecycle and ensure comprehensive coverage of new features, enhancements, and workflows.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, including style guides, templates, and terminology conventions to drive consistency and quality across all content.
- Contribute to and help manage documentation tools, publishing workflows, and version control systems; continuously seek opportunities to improve efficiency, reusability, and scalability of content production.
- Monitor and evaluate documentation usage and internal feedback to continuously improve content based on clarity, usefulness, and accessibility.
- Mentor junior writers and empower product and engineering partners to contribute to documentation in a structured and sustainable way.
Education and Experience
- 4+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably in a SaaS, data, or enterprise software environment.
- Demonstrated experience documenting software products and complex data concepts for technical and business users.
- Proficiency with modern documentation tools and workflows (e. g. , Markdown, ReadMe, Git, Confluence, static site generators, content reuse strategies).
- bachelors degree in English, Technical Communication, Information Design, Computer Science, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts, product workflows, and structured data into content that is clear, concise, and engaging.
- Deep understanding of technical writing best practices, content strategy, and documentation lifecycles in agile development environments.
- Familiarity with data documentation, especially around structured datasets, APIs, or data analysis tools.
- A strong collaborator with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Exceptional written English communication skills, with an editorial eye and attention to detail.
