About BBC News Bangla

BBC News Bangla is the Bengali language service of the BBC World Service and was set up in 1941 for Bengali audiences in South Asia and worldwide. It provides up-to-date news and current affairs, covering both domestic and international news stories and is multiplatform, with a multimedia website with a focus on digital video, text, interactivity for both desktop and mobile platforms, and TV news programme. The service aims to make international news relevant to Bengali speaking audiences in both Bangladesh and India, and aims at bringing quality, impartial, original journalism with news and current affairs to the Bengali speaking region.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

• Present live and pre-recorded programmes on both digital and TV platforms with confidence, clarity, and journalistic integrity
  
• Develop and deliver engaging scripts for news, current affairs, and cultural programming
  
• Collaborate with producers and journalists to shape content and ensure editorial excellence
  
• Conduct interviews with a wide range of guests, from policymakers to local changemakers
  
• Contribute to planning and ideation for innovative formats tailored for Bengali-speaking audiences
  

Knowledge, skills, training and experience

Essential:

• Prior experience as a presenter or anchor in TV and, preferably, digital media is strongly preferred
  
• Outstanding verbal communication and storytelling abilities in Bengali
  
• Solid understanding of journalistic ethics and editorial standards
  
• Comfortable navigating studio and field environments, sometimes under tight deadlines
  
• Basic knowledge of visual production and social media engagement strategies
  
• Deep cultural awareness of West Bengal, including its social, political, and artistic landscape
