Senior Java Developer (5+ Years Experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Developer with 5+ years of experience to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in modern Java development, cloud-native architectures, and system design, with deep expertise in backend systems, integration patterns, and document processing technologies.

You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance applications in a microservices-based environment. This role requires strong technical depth, problem-solving ability, and hands-on experience with document processing (Docx4j), XML technologies, cloud infrastructure, and payment integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable backend services using Java 1721, Spring Boot 3.2+, and Spring 6.x.
• Implement complex business logic with a strong focus on threading, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Architect and deploy applications using microservices and SOA patterns with REST APIs.
• Work extensively with XML, XSD, XSLT, XPath, XProc, XHTML, JATS for document transformation and processing.
• Integrate and customize Docx4j for advanced DOCX generation, manipulation, and templating (critical skill).
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI, container registries, and deployment automation.
• Containerize applications using Docker and orchestrate via Kubernetes in AWS environments.
• Deploy and manage services on AWS (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudFront, Lambda, etc.) with strong understanding of native cloud services and VPC setup.
• Work with both SQL (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases for data persistence and caching.
• Implement payment gateway integrations (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, or other providers).
• Contribute to system design and architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Collaborate with frontend teams; familiarity with any frontend framework (React, Angular, Vue, etc.) is expected.
• Apply Data Structures, Algorithms, and Problem-Solving skills to tackle complex engineering challenges.
• Maintain code quality through unit/integration testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices.
• Manage source control via GitLab or GitHub, including branching strategies and repository management.

Core Technical Stack

• Java 17–21 (Strong hands-on experience)
• Spring Boot 3.2+ and Spring 6.x
• Maven for build management
• Threading & Concurrency in Java (advanced usage)
• System Design & Architecture (microservices, scalability, fault tolerance)
• Problem Solving: Strong foundation in Data Structures & Algorithms

Cloud & DevOps

• AWS: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudFront, Route 53, and other core services
• Docker (image creation, optimization, multi-stage builds)
• Kubernetes (deployments, services, config maps, Helm optional)
• GitLab CI/CD, Container Registry, and Pipeline Configuration
• Experience with native cloud patterns (serverless, event-driven, etc.)

Data & Integration

• PostgreSQL (SQL, optimization, indexing)
• MongoDB (document modeling, queries, aggregation)
• Redis (caching, pub/sub, TTL strategies)
• RESTful Services (design, documentation, security)
• SOA Architecture and service communication patterns

Critical Domain Expertise

• Docx4j: Must have extensive, production-level experience in DOCX template creation, styling, merging, and automation.
• XML Technologies: Mastery of XML, XSD, XSLT, XPath, XProc, XHTML, JATS for structured document processing (academic, publishing, or legal domains a plus).

Other Must-Haves

• Payment Integration experience (e.g., Razorpay, PayPal, or PCI-compliant systems)
• Frontend Awareness: Working knowledge of React, Angular, or Vue.js (not required to build UIs, but must collaborate effectively)
• Version Control: Git, GitLab, GitHub (branching, merging, PR workflows)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in publishing, legal tech, or content management systems (due to Docx4j & JATS focus)
• Exposure to event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS)
• Knowledge of security best practices (OAuth2, JWT, encryption)
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch)
