Gemmologist

Key Responsibilities:

• Gemstone Identification

  : Accurately identify and classify a wide variety of gemstones, including diamonds, coloured stones- Natural/treated/Synthetic using specialized tools and techniques.

• Grading and Evaluation

  : Assess gemstones for their quality, size, colour, and cut using established grading systems, and provide reports.

• Inventory Management

  : Maintain accurate records of gemstone inventory, including descriptions, photographs, and grading reports.

• Education & Training

  : Keep up to date with industry developments, trends, and new technologies in gemmology; share knowledge with team members and customers.

• Quality Control

  : Ensure the quality of gemstones meets industry standards and company specifications.

Qualifications:

• Education

  : A degree or diploma in Gemmology (e.g., from GIA or another accredited institution). Additional qualifications such as certifications in coloured stone identification are preferred.

• Experience

  : Minimum 8+ years of experience as a Gemmologist in a retail, wholesale, or laboratory environment.

• Technical Skills

  : Proficient in the use of gemmological tools and equipment, including microscopes, refractometers, spectrometers, and other diagnostic instruments.

• Knowledge

  : In-depth knowledge of gemstone properties, Origin, grading systems, and current market values.

• Attention to Detail

  : Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for precise gemstone identification.

• Communication Skills

  : Excellent verbal and written skills for internal Communications and Training .

• Computer Skills

  : Familiarity with inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable Skills:

• Languages

  : Additional language skills are a plus, particularly for international dealings.

• Training Ability

  : Ability to educate and mentor junior gemmologists or staff members.
