Senior Composer

InDesign Composer JD:

• Use Adobe InDesign to design, layout, and prepare files for print and digital publications (including books, journals, magazines, brochures, etc.).
• Collaborate closely with editorial and design teams to create visually appealing and cohesive layouts, incorporating text, images, and graphics.
• Prepare files for publication, ensuring they are print-ready and conform to industry standards.
• Maintain and implement templates, styles, and design systems to ensure consistency across publications.
• Work with other creative software tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) to edit or manipulate graphics and images when needed.
• Perform preflight checks to ensure all images, fonts, and files are correctly linked and formatted.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to file formats, color profiles, fonts, and other design-related technical aspects.
• Ensure accurate typesetting, formatting, and alignment of text while adhering to the editorial style guide.
• Prepare digital versions of publications (e-books, PDFs, etc.) for distribution, ensuring compatibility with various platforms and devices.
• Work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality output.
• Assist in the preparation of marketing and promotional materials when required.
• Stay updated with the latest design trends, software developments, and publishing industry best practices.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat in a professional setting, preferably in a publishing environment.
• Strong knowledge of print production processes and the technical requirements for print and digital publications.
• Ability to work with complex document layouts and large volumes of content.
• Excellent understanding of typography, color theory, and layout principles.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with digital publishing formats such as eBooks, interactive PDFs, and web publications.
• Experience with file management, preflighting, and preparing print-ready files.
• Ability to collaborate with editors, designers, and production teams effectively.
• A degree or diploma in Graphic Design, Publishing, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with InDesign scripting or automation tools to streamline workflows.
• Knowledge of interactive design and multimedia content for digital publications.
• Familiarity with other Adobe Creative Cloud tools like Adobe XD or Animate.
• Prior experience in academic, scientific, or technical publishing.
