Job Description

Job Purpose:

To lead and oversee billing operations across assigned hospital units, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in billing processes. The role is responsible for strengthening revenue cycle practices, minimizing revenue leakage, standardizing processes across units, and ensuring patient satisfaction through transparent and efficient billing management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Billing Oversight

  • Provide leadership and direction to the billing teams across assigned hospital units.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate billing standards, policies, and audit requirements.
  • Monitor revenue performance and drive process consistency across units.

2. Revenue Cycle & Assurance

  • Ensure accurate and timely billing for all patient categories cash, credit, insurance, and TPA.
  • Review billed vs. realized revenue and track variances.
  • Identify revenue leakages and implement corrective and preventive measures.
  • Oversee credit control, concessions, discounts, and refunds in line with approval matrices.

3. Audit & Compliance

  • Ensure all billing processes comply with statutory, financial, and organizational norms.
  • Coordinate with internal/external auditors for billing reviews and closure of audit findings.
  • Maintain and monitor documentation related to insurance and TPA claims as per IRDA and corporate guidelines.

4. Unit-Level Billing Leadership

  • Supervise Unit Billing Heads and guide them in managing day-to-day billing operations.
  • Support unit teams in addressing escalations related to billing, patient queries, or claim disputes.
  • Conduct periodic reviews to monitor KPIs, TAT adherence, and billing accuracy.

5. Reporting & MIS

  • Consolidate and review billing MIS reports from all units including daily revenue, outstanding, TAT, and discounts.
  • Present periodic analysis and insights to management for decision-making.
  • Support finance in reconciliation of billed revenue vs. collected revenue.

6. Process Improvement & Technology Enablement

  • Drive process optimization and automation across billing functions.
  • Collaborate with IT and HIS teams for upgrades, implementation, and training.
  • Ensure best practices are shared and implemented uniformly across all units.

7. People Management & Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor billing teams across multiple units.
  • Conduct periodic training sessions on billing accuracy, compliance, and customer service.
  • Build a performance-driven culture through reviews and structured feedback.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of hospital billing, RCM, and healthcare accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on revenue assurance.
  • Proficiency in hospital billing systems (HIS/ERP) and Excel-based reporting.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multi-unit operations and large teams.
  • Exposure to insurance/TPA billing, audits, and compliance processes.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Commerce, Finance, or Hospital Administration.
  • 8-15 years of experience

    in hospital billing, with at least

    5 years in a leadership role

    managing multi-unit or corporate billing functions.
  • Proven experience in process standardization, automation, and cross-unit coordination.
