Security Guard

A security guard's primary role is to protect people, property, and assets through vigilance, deterrence, and response. While specific tasks vary depending on the environment (retail vs. corporate vs. industrial), the core responsibilities remain consistent.

​1. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• ​Patrolling & Surveillance: Conduct regular foot or vehicle patrols of the premises to detect signs of intrusion, property damage, or safety hazards (like fire or leaks).
• ​Access Control: Monitor and authorize the entry and exit of employees, visitors, and vehicles. This includes checking IDs, issuing passes, and preventing unauthorized access.
• ​Monitoring Security Systems: Watch live CCTV feeds, monitor alarm systems, and respond to triggered sensors immediately.
• ​Incident Reporting: Maintain detailed daily logs and write comprehensive incident reports for any security breaches, medical emergencies, or suspicious activities.
• ​Emergency Response: Serve as a first responder during emergencies (fires, medical crises, or criminal acts). This includes coordinating with police, fire departments, and EMS.
• ​Conflict De-escalation: Intervene in verbal or physical altercations to restore order using professional communication and, only if necessary and legal, physical restraint.
