Job Description

Scrum Master

Role & responsibilities

  1. Guides the team and organization on how to leverage Agile/Scrum practices and values to maximize the delivery of business value.
  2. Applies Agile/Scrum practices in a manner to best suit the needs of the organization, ensuring adhereance to the Agile framework being used by the team
  3. Tracks and publishes prescribed team metrics including velocity, team burndown and capacity. Exhibits ability to analyze collected data and present findings/trends to stakeholders
  4. Guides the team on applying self-organizing, self-corrective behaviors; analyzing and adapting to the feedback inputs (eg. Metrics, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, etc.), all for the purpose of building high performing teams.
  5. Assists in resolving blockers, or impediments to progress, and guides the team to remove its own impediments.
  6. Empowers teams to self-organize and take ownership of work • Builds a trusting environment where issues are raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on correcting and problem solving.
  7. Facilitates the completion of assignments efficiently and without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  8. Champions collaborative discussion, decision making, and problem solving.
  9. Assists with internal communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  10. Coordinates and encourages participation from all team members in scrum ceremonies (Scrum, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, and Retrospective) and longer term planning exercises (Road Mapping, Release Planning)
  11. Supports the Product Management team in applying the scrum framework and agile principles, and help in refining and maintaining the product backlog.
  12. Assists in the identification and mitigation of project risks.
  13. Conducts regular assessments of a teams Scrum Maturity and uses the results to guide them to improved performance.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Foundational understanding of the Agile Manifesto, principles and values
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks, including, but limited, to Scrum and Kanban.
  • Basic understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Experience as a Scrum Lead for a minimum of 1-3 years for a software development team utilizing Agile/Scrum principles.
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Ability to anticipate issues based on experience to help the team avoid or resolve the issues.

  • One of the following certifications:
  1. Certified Scrum Master (CMS) Scrum Alliance
  2. Professional Scrum Master (PSM I)
  3. ICAgile Certified Professional (ICP)
  4. SAFe Scrum Master (SSM)
