Scientist / Associate Scientist - Process API R&D

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated scientist to join our API R&D Division. The role focuses on executing synthetic and process chemistry projects with opportunities to learn scale-up, process optimization, and CDMO operations under the guidance of senior scientists.

The selected candidate will work on design, optimization, and scale-up of robust, safe, and cost-efficient processes while contributing to project execution for global CDMO clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute multi-step organic synthesis for APIs, intermediates, and KSMs under supervision
• Perform process development and optimization at laboratory and kilo lab scales
• Support route scouting, impurity profiling, and crystallization studies
• Conduct literature review and prepare technical reports for assigned projects
• Assist in custom synthesis and contract research projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery
• Collaborate with senior team members in client project discussions and technical problem-solving
• Contribute to DMF documentation, process validation protocols, and regulatory compliance activities
• Work cross-functionally with analytical, process safety, and manufacturing teams during tech transfer
• Maintain good laboratory practices following GLP/GMP, EHS, and ICH standards
• Gain exposure to digital systems for chemistry documentation and data management

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong foundation in Organic Synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and synthetic route design
• Hands-on experience in reaction optimization, purification, and isolation techniques
• Good understanding of analytical data interpretation (NMR, HPLC, GC, LC-MS)
• Exposure to API R&D or pharmaceutical process chemistry
• Basic knowledge of CRDMO business models and regulatory requirements (desirable)
• Good communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional teams
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and quality

Essential Qualifications

Education:

• M.Sc in Organic Chemistry (mandatory)

Experience:

• 2-5 years of industrial experience in Process R&D / API Development / CDMO

Desired Experience (Not Mandatory):

• Exposure to scale-up activities (lab to kilo lab)
• Basic understanding of regulatory documentation (DMF)
• Experience in contract research or custom synthesis projects
