Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Science Editor who can elevate the quality of our science content for LH2 Holdings' portfolio brand https://www.earth.com/.

This role requires a deep understanding of how to distill complex scientific research into engaging, accurate, and readable articles that align with Earth.com’s editorial standards. You will work closely with writers to ensure the content maintains scientific integrity, clarity, logical flow, and reader engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Edit 4-6 science articles per day for clarity, accuracy, tone, structure, and grammar.
• Ensure content adheres to Earth.com’s editorial style guide, including headline formatting, paragraph length, and tone.
• Verify source material (journal papers, press releases) to ensure factual accuracy.
• Provide constructive feedback to writers to help them improve their understanding of Earth.com’s style and voice.
• Identify and correct scientific inaccuracies, vague statements, or unsupported claims.
• Check for logical transitions, narrative flow, and consistent voice across the article.
• Optimize headlines, meta descriptions, and subheadings for clarity and clickability—without clickbait.
• Collaborate with the Head of Content and writers on continuous editorial improvements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, Biology, Environmental Science, Neuroscience, or a related field.
• Proven experience editing science content for digital publications (portfolio required).
• Excellent grammar, fact-checking, and copy-editing skills.
• Strong understanding of scientific terminology and research formats 
• Ability to simplify technical language for a general audience while retaining nuance and accuracy.
• Familiarity with SEO best practices for editorial content is a plus.
• Experience working with CMS (WordPress)
