Position Overview
The School Nurse is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all learners during school hours. She will provide immediate first aid, manage minor injuries, maintain the school infirmary, and support the overall health needs of students and staff. The role requires compassion, alertness, and the ability to respond quickly and effectively to medical situations involving children of all age groups.
Key Responsibilities
1. First Aid & Emergency Care
Provide prompt first aid for common school-related injuries such as:
Minor cuts, abrasions, and wounds
Sudden falls during play or sports
Fast-movement injuries like twists, jerks, or sprains
Nosebleeds
Mild burns (from science labs or hot surfaces)
Head bumps
Assess the severity of injuries and determine if further medical care or parent notification is
needed.
Handle students who feel faint, dizzy, or suddenly unwell.
2. Health Monitoring & Support
Monitor students with ongoing health concerns (asthma, allergies, diabetes, epilepsy, etc.).
Administer prescribed medications with proper authorization.
Keep a record of students with specific health needs and ensure confidentiality.
3.Infirmary Management
Maintain a clean, well-organized, and fully stocked school infirmary.
Ensure all first-aid supplies, emergency kits, and equipment are available and regularly
updated.
Keep detailed logs of all student visits, treatments given, and actions taken.
4.Safety & Preventive Care
Observe and report any health hazards within the campus.
Support health awareness drives (hand-washing, hygiene, seasonal illness prevention).
Educate students on basic safety practices during sports, playtime, and daily routines.
5.Communication and Coordination
Coordinate with teachers, coordinators, and the school leadership team regarding student
health concerns.
Assist in medical inspections, vaccination drives, and health-related documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
Diploma or Degree in Nursing (ANM/GNM/BSc Nursing).
Registered nurse certification preferred.
Minimum 1–2 years of experience in pediatric or school-related healthcare (preferred).
Strong knowledge of first aid, emergency care, and child health.
Calm, patient, and child-friendly nature.
Good communication and record-keeping skills.
Ability to make quick decisions in emergencies.
Work Hours
Must be present on campus throughout school hours on all working days.
Available for emergency care during school events, sports days, or special occasions when
required.
