Job Overview:

The R&D Specialist in Cosmetics & Personal Care will lead the formulation, testing, and optimization of new and existing products
This role requires a deep understanding of cosmetic chemistry, regulatory compliance, and market trends to develop innovative, safe, and effective personal care products

Key Responsibilities:

Formulation & Development:

Develop and optimize skincare, cosmetics, and oral care formulations (creams, serums, cleansers, makeup, toothpaste, etc)
Work with raw materials (emulsifiers, actives, preservatives) to create stable, efficacious, and scalable formulations Conduct stability, compatibility, and performance testing

Regulatory & Compliance:

Ensure formulations meet global regulatory standards (FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation, ISO, etc)
Prepare technical documentation (SDS, TDS, PIF) and support product registration

Innovation & Market Trends:

Research emerging ingredients, technologies, and consumer trends
Collaborate with marketing/sales to align R&D with private-label client needs

Quality & Process Improvement:

Troubleshoot production-scale challenges (batch inconsistencies, shelf-life issues)
Support scale-up from lab to manufacturing

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Work with suppliers, manufacturers, and QC teams to ensure product integrity
Assist in client presentations (technical support for B2B customers)

Qualifications & Skills:

Hard Skills:

Strong knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, emulsion systems, surfactants, rheology modifiers
Experience with formulation software (eg Chemistri, UL Prospector) is a plus Familiarity with GMP, ISO 22716, and regulatory guidelines Proficiency in lab techniques (pH testing, viscosity, accelerated stability tests)

Soft Skills:

Innovative & Problem-Solving - Ability to troubleshoot formulation issues
Detail-Oriented - Ensures precision in documentation and testing Collaborative - Works well with marketing, production, and clients Adaptable - Keeps up with industry trends and evolving regulations

Education & Certifications:

Bachelor s/Master s in Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Certifications (Preferred):
Diploma in Cosmetic Science (eg SCC, ISCS) Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) for Cosmetics

Preferred Experience:

3+ years in R&D (cosmetics/personal care industry)
Experience in private label/manufacturing environment is a strong plus Knowledge of natural/organic formulations is desirable
