Job Description

Radiation Safety Officer Level III certification is mandatory.

Administrative / Regulatory

  • Applications for authorization of detention and use of radioactive substances / devices electric generators of ionizing radiation
  • Request for renewals, or modification: extension of activity, change of owner, modification of the premises of use ...
  • Participate in Radiation Protection & Safety studies as part of regulatory requirements.
  • Be the point of contact for the National Authority.
  • Define and disseminate in the company the general radiological protection guidelines (general instructions for the purchase, the management sources, instructions in case of accidents, ...)
  • Ensure with the contractors, the definition and implementation of the preventive measures for all work performed in restricted areas inside the company premises.

Post Studies / Areas Delimitation

  • Carry out studies: Exposure Risk Analysis (Forecast Calculation of dose, exposure measurements ...), and risk assessments along with scientific calculations.
  • Choose personal protective equipment (with the advice of the prevention doctor) and collective according studies
  • Realize the marking of the sources and the signaling of the zones.
  • Define, trace and disseminate specific radiological protection guidelines to follow while working in the determined restricted areas

Dosimetry / Medical monitoring

  • Define dosimetry management procedures in the laboratory
  • In coordination with the Occupational Physician and according to the post studies carried out,
  • Define the dose limit objectives (collective, individual) for operations in controlled areas;
  • Perform staff classification;
  • Fill in the exhibit sheet;
  • Ensure their follow-up and update;
  • Manage the passive dosimetry of staff
  • Set up the environmental dosimetry, and make sure of its follow-up
  • Implement operational dosimetry and exploit its results

Control / Audit

  • Organize external controls carried out by an approved organization
  • Perform the internal radiation protection technical inspections of sources, devices, and protective devices and alarm, measuring instruments
  • Manage these controls (holding inventories, control schedules, traceability, dissemination of reports)
  • Establish the program of controls, their approach, any adjustments made and their justifications, the consequences on worker exposure.
  • To draft internal control reports.
  • Follow-up and management of the resolution of nonconformities
  • Manage detection devices: purchase, maintenance, controls

Management and monitoring of radioactive substances and waste

  • Manage the sources while checking compliance with the limits of the authorization:
  • Communicate annually to the National Regulatory Authority the inventory of sealed sources, devices, waste and produced radioisotopes or radiopharmaceuticals
  • Receive sources and store, maintain receipt documents
  • Ensure the management of shipments of radioactive substances
  • Follow up on sources in use (traceability of movements, periodic inspection)
  • Realize the management plan radioactive waste
  • Manage any off-premises uses, imports / exports and loan formalities
  • Ensure the disposal of waste and the elimination by decay

Accident / Incident

  • Intervene on accident and incident situations
  • To prevent the competent authorities, if necessary, various internal instances
  • Put in place the remedial, corrective and preventive actions needed
  • To realize the experience feedback
  • Support the pre-doctor to carry out the investigation in case of exceeding a dose limit regulation

Training

  • Identify with the collaboration of executive management and staff likely to be confronted with risk of ionizing radiation
  • Train the staff
  • Provide radiation protection training for personnel working in restricted areas
  • Produce and deliver information documents and instructions to staff prior to intervention controlled area.
  • Make sure dissemination of the general and specific radiological protection instructions by the personnel concerned;

Establishment of the Yearly Activity Review

  • Produce and present an annual report of the activity done on site and related with the radioprotection (the seven missions of the RSO defined here above).
