Quality Laboratory Technician

Responsible for conducting materials testing and on-site quality control across our construction projects; conduct routine tests on cement, steel, aggregates, concrete, bricks/blocks, sand, water, admixtures, maintain lab equipment, ensure SOP compliance, and provide timely reports for decision-making. The role requires attention to detail, discipline in documentation, and coordination with site teams to uphold Trehan Iris quality standards from pre-construction to final handover.

Role & responsibilities

Testing, Inspection & Documentation

• Lab Setup & Calibration: Maintain lab environment, calibrate instruments.
• Material Qualification: Conduct vendor sample testing for cement, steel, aggregates, bricks/blocks, sand, water, admixtures, waterproofing chemicals; prepare approval reports.
• SOP Familiarization: Learn and follow standard test methods and internal SOPs; maintain checklists for receiving inspection.
• Batch-wise Testing: Perform routine incoming material checks and process controls (e.g., sieve analysis, moisture content, slump, cube casting).
• Raw material Quality Control: Witness batching, record mix parameters, cast and cure test cubes, test concretes compressive strength; track NCRs if results deviate.
• Steel Masonry QA: Conduct bend tests (as directed), heat numbers, mill certificates; verify brick/block compressive strength, dimensions, water absorption.
• Waterproofing & Finishes: Assist with membrane thickness checks, adhesion tests and finish inspections against approved samples.
• Documentation & Traceability: Maintain test registers, sample identification, labelling, cure logs, and chain-of-custody.
• On-Site Inspections: Accompany QA engineers for surveillance, prepare inspection photographs, and support ITP (Inspection Test Plan) execution.
• Issue Escalation: Flag non-conformities (NCRs), prepare deviation reports, support root cause analysis and follow-up corrective actions.
• Final Product Testing: Assist in core tests and finish verifications (as per handover checklist).
• Documentation for Handover: Compile test certificates, calibration certificates, material approvals, and quality reports for inclusion in the handover dossier.

QMS , compliance & MIS

• QMS Adherence: Implement quality procedures, maintain SOP checklists, and participate in internal audits.
• Compliance: Ensure testing meets relevant codes/standards (company SOPs; follow supervisor guidance for applicable norms).
• MIS Reporting: Submit daily/weekly test summaries, material rejection/acceptance logs, and dashboard inputs (e.g., % tests passed, NCR trends).
• Coordination: Liaise with Procurement, Site Execution, PMC/Consultants, Vendors to resolve quality issues and align on approvals.

Safety and Housekeeping

• Follow EHS protocols, use PPE, maintain clean lab and safe chemical handling practices.
• 35 years in construction materials testing (preferred: residential/commercial projects)
• Certifications related to QMS/ISO awareness, lab safety, equipment handlin will be preferred

Preferred candidate profile

• Diploma in Civil / Materials / Quality Engineering or B.Sc(Physics/Chemistry) with lab experience.
• 3-5 years in construction materials testing (preferred: residential/commercial projects)
• Certifications related to QMS/ISO awareness, lab safety, equipment handling will be preferred
• Hands-on materials testing, sample preparation, curing practices, equipment calibration basics.
• SOP discipline, documentation accuracy, traceability, familiarity NCR workflows.
• Comfortable with Excel, data entry, structured reporting
