QC Welding Inspector

Key responsibilities

• Pre-welding inspection: Verifies that the correct and approved codes, drawings, and welding procedure specifications (WPS) are available and that materials and equipment are suitable. This includes checking the qualifications of the welders.
• During welding monitoring: Observes the welding process to ensure it is performed according to the WPS, monitoring parameters like voltage, amperage, and travel speed.
• Post-welding inspection: Conducts visual inspections and uses NDT methods to check the finished welds for quality and conformance to requirements.
• Documentation: Records all inspection points and final reports, and compares findings with the specified acceptance criteria.
• Compliance: Ensures that all welding activities comply with applicable codes and standards such as AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, and API standards.

Required skills and knowledge

• Knowledge of welding processes, materials, and symbols.
• Familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
• Expertise in both visual inspection and various Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
• Ability to understand and interpret technical documents, including specifications, procedures, and drawings.
• Skills in writing reports and maintaining detailed records.

Becoming a welding inspector

• Many certified welding inspectors have a background in welding or mechanical engineering.
• Gaining certification, such as the Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential from the American Welding Society, is a common path. This involves passing specific exams and meeting experience requirements.
• Training programs are available to help aspiring inspectors build the necessary knowledge and skills.

Pay: ₹45,000.00 - ₹55,000.00 per year
