Project Manager - Commercial Fitout Job Title & Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead commercial fitout and interior construction projects from conception to completion. This role requires a dynamic professional with proven expertise in managing complex office, retail, and hospitality space transformations while delivering exceptional client experiences and maintaining the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution : Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for commercial fitout projects ranging from small office renovations to large-scale corporate headquarters and retail environments
Team Leadership : Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams including architects, designers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal staff to ensure seamless project delivery
Client Relationship Management : Serve as primary client liaison, conducting regular progress meetings, managing expectations, and ensuring clear communication throughout all project phases
Budget & Financial Management : Monitor project finances, track expenses against budgets, process change orders, and provide detailed financial reporting to stakeholders
Schedule Management : Create and maintain detailed project timelines, coordinate trade sequencing, and proactively address potential delays to ensure on-time delivery
Quality Control : Implement quality assurance protocols, conduct regular site inspections, manage punch lists, and ensure all work meets specifications and building codes
Compliance & Safety : Ensure adherence to local building codes, safety regulations, and company policies while maintaining required permits and documentation
Procurement Coordination : Oversee material selection, vendor management, and delivery schedules to support project timelines and budget requirements
Risk Management : Identify potential project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement contingency plans to minimize disruptions
Documentation & Reporting : Maintain comprehensive project records, prepare regular status reports, and ensure proper project closeout procedures
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field Minimum 5-7 years of project management experience specifically in commercial fitout/interior construction, or equivalent project management certification preferred Proven track record managing large projects with experience with commercial spaces including corporate offices, retail stores, restaurants, and hospitality venues
Essential Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise : Deep understanding of MEP systems, millwork, flooring, ceiling systems, and commercial-grade finishes Software Proficiency : Advanced skills in project management software (MS Project, Procore, Buildertrend), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite Leadership Skills : Demonstrated ability to manage teams of 10-20+ professionals and subcontractors Communication : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with ability to present to C-level executives Problem-Solving : Strong analytical skills with ability to make quick decisions under pressure Client Focus : Proven success in building long-term client relationships and generating repeat business
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with sustainable/LEED construction practices Familiarity with design-build project delivery methods Experience with national retail chains or corporate clients Background in tenant improvement and base building coordination Additional certifications (OSHA 30, CCCA, etc.)
Working Conditions
Schedule : Standard business hours with occasional evening/weekend work during critical project phases Physical Requirements : Ability to walk construction sites, climb stairs, and wear required PPE
Reporting Structure
Reports To : Senior Project Manager or Director of Operations Direct Reports : Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Site Supervisors (typically 3-6 direct reports depending on project portfolio)
