Job Summary

On – Site Role

The Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician – Level II is responsible for preparing, assembling, and testing engine and mechanical systems in alignment with Cummins engineering standards and procedures. This includes the setup and operation of test cells, installation of instrumentation, troubleshooting test equipment, and ensuring accurate, high-quality data collection and reporting. The role supports both product validation and continuous improvement activities through strong technical expertise and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Testing and Setup

  • Conduct and monitor engine and component tests as per defined test plans and engineering specifications.
  • Prepare test articles, including installation, build, and teardown, ensuring all instrumentation and fixtures are correctly implemented.
  • Perform test stand installation, configuration, and maintenance, including troubleshooting mechanical and control issues.
  • Assemble and disassemble engines or subcomponents according to test requirements.
  • Execute preventative and predictive maintenance of lab and test equipment.

Operational Support

  • Support 24/7 testing operations on a rotational or shift basis as required.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety procedures, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), risk assessment preparation, and housekeeping standards.
  • Participate actively in Total Business Work Systems (TBWS) and Quality Management System (QMS) activities.
  • Maintain effective communication with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth test execution.

Data and Reporting

  • Perform data acquisition, ensuring accurate calibration and setup of test instruments.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results clearly and accurately for engineering review.
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues to maintain the integrity of test information.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Minimum: High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education, or equivalent in a STEM field.
  • Preferred: Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Regionally applicable certification may be required.
  • Licensing may be necessary to comply with export controls or sanctions regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Skills and Experience

  • Experience:
  • Intermediate-level mechanical or test technician experience (typically 2–5 years) in an automotive, engine, or industrial testing environment.
  • Experience with engine test cells, particularly AVL–PUMA systems , is highly desirable.
  • Proven hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, instrumentation, and troubleshooting of test setups.
  • Working knowledge of QMS systems , safety practices , and risk assessment preparation .
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems, calibration processes, and mechanical testing procedures.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of test cell operations, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting.
  • Competence in using standard lab tools, software (e.g., MS Excel), and mechanical measuring instruments.
  • Behavioral Skills:
  • Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic, fast-paced testing environment.

Additional Information

  • This position requires hands-on mechanical work in a lab or test cell environment.
  • May involve shift work and extended hours to support continuous testing operations.
  • Travel may be required for training or cross-site support.
