The Business Analyst cum Product Analyst analyzes business systems, processes, and data to engineer solutions that enhance business capabilities and operational efficiency. As a core member of the product team, this role translates business workflows into clear technical requirements, specifications, and acceptance criteria. The analyst also functions as a proxy product owner and subject matter expert, collaborating closely with business stakeholders and technical teams. A strong foundation in requirements engineering, process modeling, Agile practices, and data analysis is essential.
Roles & Responsibilities
Requirements & Product Analysis
- Translate business processes, goals, and terminology into technical requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Act as a proxy product owner for designated business domains, offering functional expertise and guidance.
- Collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to analyze, document, and refine product requirements.
- Manage and prioritize product backlog items in Azure DevOps based on business value, dependencies, and stakeholder inputs.
- Prepare communications, presentations, and documentation on system enhancements, alternatives, and recommended solutions.
Process & Data Analysis
- Analyze business workflows to identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and automation.
- Validate, interpret, and analyze data from Mainframe environments, DB2 databases, and SQL queries to support decision-making.
- Contribute to building business cases by gathering data, identifying issues, and documenting components under senior guidance.
Agile Delivery & Project Support
- Support Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Develop schedules of tasks based on overarching project timelines and keep stakeholders informed on progress.
- Participate in system testing, UAT, and production validation to ensure solution accuracy and quality.
- Work independently on projects of low to moderate complexity and with minimal supervision on more complex initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build, maintain, and enhance strong relationships with business partners through active listening, consistent communication, and accountability.
- Understand stakeholder needs and expectations to deliver clear, value-driven solutions.
- Demonstrate trust, influence, and adaptability to meet evolving business requirements.
Reporting & Documentation
- Create business and functional requirement documents, process flows, guidelines, and technical communication materials.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and metrics using Microsoft Office tools to track product performance and project progress.
- Seek relevant information to ensure clarity and accuracy of technical communication tailored to different audience groups.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy Execution
- Apply an understanding of financial, ROI, and market principles to support strategy development.
- Identify inefficiencies within work processes and apply innovative ideas or established tools to improve outcomes.
- Continuously pursue opportunities for system, workflow, and product improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Product Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role (5-8 years preferred).
- Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps for managing requirements and product backlogs.
- Experience with Mainframe systems, DB2 databases, SQL, and data validation.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum/SAFe) and cross-functional team collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio).
- Exposure to PL/SQL, EDI Mapping, enterprise integration, and data flows across legacy and modern platforms.
- Core competencies: requirements elicitation, process modeling, workshop facilitation, and analytical thinking.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong stakeholder management ability.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management skills, and a problem-solving mindset.
Education
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Combination of university education and hands-on business/domain experience is valued
