Principal Applied Scientist

Role Overview: You will have the opportunity to contribute to AI research that directly impacts the lives of billions of humans. Your responsibilities will include working on strategic workloads like M365 Copilot App, Outlook, Teams, Copilot Extensibility, and all productivity applications in M365. You will be part of a team that obsesses about powering workloads with AI and innovates on next-generation engineering infrastructure and tooling using AI. As a member of the team of Principal Applied Scientists, you will collaborate with other teams across Microsoft, lead feature crews, and embrace rapidly evolving innovations in the field. Key Responsibilities: - Master a broad area of research, understand research techniques, and influence product needs based on industry trends and advances. - Review business and product requirements, provide strategic direction for problem-solving, and ensure scientific rigor in developing methods. - Identify and inspire peers and new research talent to join Microsoft, build relationships, and advocate for research initiatives. - Document work and experimentation results, share findings to promote innovation, and contribute to ethics and privacy policies related to research processes and data collection. Qualification Required: - Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience OR Master's Degree in the same fields AND 4+ years related experience OR Doctorate in the same fields AND 3+ years related experience OR equivalent experience. - 5+ years of working in an AI research facility or working with software services/experiences infused with AI. - Strong customer focus, ability to establish trusted relationships, excellent communication skills, and cross-group collaboration. - Ability to keep pace with rapid innovations in the field, be creative in problem-solving, and experience in developing highly scalable classifiers, ranking algorithms, SL.
