Piping Design Lead- BMP

1. Design & Engineering

• Lead the development of piping layouts, isometrics, GA drawings, and support detail drawings.
  
• Review P&IDs, equipment GA, and project specifications to translate requirements into accurate piping designs.
  
• Ensure design compliance with ASME, ASTM, API, and other relevant codes/standards.
  
• Prepare and review MTO (Material Take-Off) and ensure alignment with fabrication requirements.
  
• Optimize designs for ease of fabrication, transportation, and installation.
  

2. Coordination & Interface Management

• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams to resolve design interfaces.
  
• Work closely with project managers to track design progress versus project timelines.
  
• Liaise with fabrication shop teams to resolve site/shop queries and provide technical clarifications.
  
• Communicate effectively with clients/consultants for design approvals and engineering deliverables.
  

3. Team Management & Technical Leadership

• Lead a team of piping designers, draftsmen, and 3D modelers.
  
• Plan workloads, allocate tasks, and review team outputs for accuracy and completeness.
  
• Conduct technical mentoring, skill upgrades, and peer reviews for team members.
  
• Implement best practices, design controls, and quality checklists.
  

4. 3D Modelling & Tools

• Oversee creation and maintenance of 3D piping models (SP3D, E3D, PDMS, AutoCAD Plant 3D, etc.).
  
• Generate clash reports and ensure resolution of piping model interference.
  
• Extract and validate isometrics, BOM, and fabrication drawings from 3D models.
  

5. Fabrication & Shop Support

• Provide technical support during fabrication, welding, and hydrotesting activities.
  
• Review fabrication drawings and ensure they are aligned with shop capabilities and project specifications.
  
• Participate in design reviews, shop inspections, and provide engineering support for NCR closures.
  

6. Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and maintain design documentation, design basis, calculations, and revision records.
  
• Ensure adherence to internal quality systems and client documentation standards.
  
• Support preparation of as-built documents and final project dossiers.
  

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of piping design fundamentals, codes, and fabrication considerations.
  
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, PDMS/E3D/SP3D, and related engineering software.
  
• Good knowledge of welding processes, pipe supports, valves, fittings, and material specifications.
  
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  
• Excellent communication, coordination, and team leadership skills.
  
• Ability to work under tight timelines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
