HZI is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the largest scientific organization in Germany, and is dedicated to advancing strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Research at HZI focuses on both bacterial and viral pathogens, their interactions with the immune system, and the discovery of novel therapeutic compounds.The Chemical Biology Department is committed to the discovery and characterization of new anti-infective agents through screening, mode of action studies, and chemical synthesis.
