Pattern Maker

As a Pattern Maker, you will collaborate closely with Designers to discuss design concepts, interpret sketches, and understand design requirements. Your main responsibility will be developing and drafting accurate and detailed patterns based on design specifications, utilizing both manual and digital (CAD) methods as necessary. You will also be tasked with adjusting and fitting patterns to different sizes, styles, and materials to ensure proper fit and design integrity. In this role, you will troubleshoot any fitting and quality issues that may arise during the manufacturing process by working closely with sample makers and production teams. It will be your duty to maintain pattern files, organizing and documenting specifications, measurements, and grading information. Staying updated on industry trends, new technologies, and pattern-making techniques is crucial to excel in this position. Quality control is a key aspect of the job, where you will need to ensure product quality at the pattern and fitting stages, sometimes conducting inspections and quality control checks. Effective communication will be vital as you provide clear instructions to production teams and collaborate with various departments. Additionally, you may be involved in training junior pattern makers or new employees on pattern-making techniques. To succeed as a Pattern Maker, you should be proficient in technical drawing and have a good understanding of garment construction. Experience with pattern-making software such as Gerber, Lectra, or Optitex is required. A strong grasp of different fabrics, their properties, and how they impact pattern creation is essential. Your mathematical skills will come into play for measuring, scaling, and grading patterns accurately. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, creativity, and adaptability are also crucial traits for this role. Typically, a degree or diploma in fashion design, pattern making, or a related field is preferred, along with several years of experience in pattern making within the fashion industry.
