Paediatrics - Senior Consultant

Roles & Responsibilities Senior Consultant Paediatrics

Clinical Care:

• Provide comprehensive medical care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents.
  
• Perform diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic paediatric illnesses.
  
• Conduct regular ward rounds, outpatient consultations, and follow-up care.
  
• Manage paediatric emergencies and critical care cases.
  
• Prescribe and monitor appropriate medication, investigations, and treatment plans.
  

Patient Safety & Quality Care:

• Ensure evidence-based clinical practices and adherence to hospital protocols.
  
• Maintain patient safety standards, infection control practices, and ethical medical conduct.
  
• Provide counselling and guidance to parents/guardians on child health, nutrition, growth, and preventive care.
  

Procedures & Specialised Care:

• Perform paediatric procedures such as neonatal resuscitation, intubation, lumbar puncture, etc.
  
• Oversee vaccination and immunization schedules.
  
• Collaborate with other specialists (Neonatology, Surgery, Radiology, etc.) for multidisciplinary care.
  

Leadership & Team Management:

• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
  
• Lead the paediatric department in clinical decision-making and case discussions.
  
• Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, and morbidity/mortality reviews.
  

Academic & Research:

• Contribute to academic teaching sessions, CME programs, and training of medical students/residents.
  
• Engage in clinical research, case studies, and publications to advance paediatric practice.
  

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Assist in formulating paediatric departmental policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  
• Ensure proper documentation, medical records, and compliance with NABH/JCI standards.
  
• Participate in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives.
  

Community & Preventive Care:

• Promote child health awareness through health camps, seminars, and outreach programs.
  
• Support preventive healthcare initiatives such as nutrition, vaccination drives, and early screening programs.
