OT Technician

1. Pre-Operative Responsibilities

• Preparing the Operating Room:
• Sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment.
• Arranging surgical tools and supplies.
• Ensuring all equipment (like suction machines, anesthesia tools, etc.) is functional.
• Assisting in Patient Preparation:
• Helping in shifting and positioning patients on the operating table.
• Ensuring patient comfort and correct posture before surgery.
• Setting Up Sterile Field:
• Maintaining strict aseptic/sterile techniques.
• Laying out instruments in the order of use.

2. Intra-Operative Responsibilities

• Assisting the Surgical Team:
• Handing instruments to surgeons and nurses during surgery.
• Managing and organizing surgical tools.
• Operating OT equipment like lights, suction, cautery machines, etc.
• Monitoring Equipment:
• Keeping track of oxygen levels, suction pressure, and other critical equipment.
• Maintaining Sterility:
• Ensuring that the sterile field is not compromised.
• Replacing contaminated instruments or gloves immediately.

3. Post-Operative Responsibilities

• Cleaning and Disinfection:
• Sterilizing and disinfecting the OT room and instruments after surgery.
• Preparing OT for the next procedure.
• Record Keeping:
• Documenting usage of surgical tools and consumables.
• Maintaining surgical records and stock logs.
• Waste Management:
• Proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital protocols.

4. Additional Duties

• Inventory Management:
• Checking stock of surgical supplies and instruments.
• Requesting replenishment of needed materials.
• Coordination:
• Liaising with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and nurses.
• Ensuring smooth communication and workflow during procedures.
• Emergency Support:
• Being available for emergency surgeries.
• Quickly setting up the OT under time constraints.
