As a Perioperative Nurse, your role involves crucial responsibilities in the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases of surgical procedures. Here is a breakdown of your key responsibilities: **Pre-operative Duties:** - Prepare the operating room with necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies. - Check and maintain sterility and functionality of OT instruments and equipment. - Verify patient identity and surgical procedure. - Assist in shifting and positioning patients on the operating table as per the procedure. - Ensure all pre-op protocols and safety checklists are followed (WHO surgical safety checklist). **Intra-operative Duties:** - Assist the surgeon as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse as required. - Maintain a sterile field and ensure aseptic techniques are followed. - Count surgical instruments, sponges, and needles with precision before and after surgery. - Monitor patient condition and communicate with the anesthetist during the surgery. - Hand over required instruments and supplies promptly and efficiently. **Post-operative Duties:** - Ensure safe transfer of the patient to the recovery room or post-op ward. - Assist in cleaning and sterilizing instruments and preparing the OT for the next case. - Document surgical records accurately, including counts, complications, and observations. - Provide post-operative nursing care instructions to the concerned ward nurse.
