Job Description -Ophthalmologist (Consultant) Position Title : Consultant -Ophthalmology Department : Ophthalmology Reporting To : Medical Director Location : Malar Hospital Position Summary The Ophthalmologist (Consultant) will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and surgical eye care services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular diseases and vision disorders. The role involves outpatient and inpatient care with a strong focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, and evidence-based ophthalmic practices. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care Provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for eye diseases and visual disorders such as cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, refractive errors, and infections. Perform comprehensive eye examinations and interpret diagnostic tests including OCT, fundus photography, visual fields, and imaging. Perform ophthalmic surgical procedures including cataract surgery and other minor/major eye surgeries as applicable. Manage medical and surgical ophthalmic emergencies. Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for ophthalmic patients. Patient Safety & Quality Care Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, NABH/JCI accreditation standards, and hospital policies. Maintain high standards of infection control and surgical safety. Maintain accurate medical records and ensure patient confidentiality. Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and preventive eye care. Multidisciplinary Collaboration Work closely with physicians, diabetologists, neurologists, and other specialists for comprehensive patient care. Provide clinical guidance to optometrists, nursing staff, and paramedical teams. Participate in case discussions, morbidity/mortality meetings, and quality improvement initiatives. Communication & Counselling Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis. Counsel patients on post-treatment care, lifestyle modifications, and vision preservation strategies. Plan, conduct, and participate in eye camps and community outreach program. Training, Research & Development Mentor and train junior doctors, optometrists, and nursing staff. Stay updated with advancements in ophthalmology through CME programs, workshops, and research. Participate in academic activities, conferences, and hospital teaching programs as required. Qualifications & Experience Education: MBBS with MD/MS/DNB in Ophthalmology. Fellowship/Additional Training: Fellowship in Cataract, Retina, Glaucoma, or Refractive Surgery preferred. Experience: Minimum 1-2 years post-qualification experience in a reputed Multi speciality hospital. Key Skills & Competencies Strong expertise in medical and surgical ophthalmology.
