Job Description Obstetrician & Gynecologist (Consultant) Position Title : Consultant-Obstetrics & Gynecology, Department: Obstetrics & Gynecology, Reporting To: Medical Director, Location: Malar Hospital.Hosur. Position Summary The Obstetrician & Gynecologist will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical and surgical care to women, focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, reproductive health, and gynecological disorders. The role involves both outpatient and inpatient care, including preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practices. Key Responsibilities 1. Clinical Care Provide consultation, diagnosis, and treatment for women's health conditions, including infertility, menstrual disorders, menopause, and gynecological cancers. Manage antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care for pregnant women. Perform normal vaginal deliveries, assisted deliveries, cesarean section deliveries, and dilatation & curettage (D&C) procedures. Perform gynecological surgeries, including hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, laparoscopic surgeries, and other minimally invasive procedures. Conduct PAP smear screening and cervical cancer preventive services. Administer and counsel patients regarding vaccinations related to women's health, including HPV vaccination. Manage high-risk pregnancies, obstetric emergencies, and associated complications. 2. Patient Safety & Quality Care Ensure strict adherence to clinical protocols, NABH/JCI accreditation standards, and hospital policies. Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout pregnancy and delivery. Provide counseling on family planning, contraception, preventive screening, and reproductive health. Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure confidentiality. 3. Preventive Health & Community Outreach Conduct and actively participate in health camps, awareness programs, and preventive screening initiatives related to women's health. Promote early detection and preventive care through community engagement and outreach activities. 4. Multidisciplinary Collaboration Work collaboratively with neonatologists, anesthetists, radiologists, pathologists, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care. Provide clinical supervision and guidance to residents, nursing staff, and paramedical personnel. Participate in case discussions, morbidity and mortality meetings, and quality improvement audits. 5. Communication & Counseling Communicate with patients and their families empathetically, providing clear explanations regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and prognosis. Educate women on preventive healthcare, lifestyle modifications, maternal wellness, and long-term reproductive health. 6. Training, Research & Development Mentor and train junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff. Stay updated with advances in obstetrics and gynecology through CME programs, workshops, and research activities. Participate in academic programs, conferences, and contribute to research and publications as required. Qualifications & Experience Education: MBBS with MD/MS/DNB in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Fellowship / Additional Training: Fellowship in High-Risk Pregnancy, Infertility, or Minimal Access Surgery preferred. Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years post-qualification experience in a reputed multispecialty hospital. Key Skills & Competencies Expertise in obstetric and gynecological procedures, including cesarean sections, D&C, hysteroscopy, colposcopy, PAP smear screening, and laparoscopic surgeries. Strong clinical judgment and emergency management skills. Excellent leadership, teamwork, and communication abilities. Ethical, compassionate, and patient-centric approach. Work Conditions OPD consultations, inpatient care, labor room, and operation theatre responsibilities. Rotational shifts, emergency on-call duties, and flexible availability. High-pressure environment requiring critical decision-making and rapid response.
