Operation & Maintenance Engineer

Role & responsibilities

Operations Monitoring & Control:

Monitor the Ground Mounted Solar plants real-time performance to ensure energy production is as expected.

Analyze data from the monitoring system to identify performance issues, system faults, or abnormalities.

Conduct remote or on-site inspections to verify operational status.

Maintain control over key operational metrics, including energy yield, efficiency, and uptime.

Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:

Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment, including solar panels, inverters, transformers, and other electrical components.

Conduct regular inspections and tests of solar plant equipment to detect potential issues.

Oversee the corrective maintenance and repairs of faulty equipment to minimize downtime.

Coordinate the repair work with technicians and contractors as needed.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

Prepare and submit regular performance reports on plant operation, including energy production, system performance, and maintenance activities.

Compare actual performance with expected performance and investigate any discrepancies.

Identify and implement performance optimization strategies.

Maintain records of all maintenance work, repairs, and inspections.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

Diagnose and troubleshoot operational problems, such as underperformance, equipment failure, or system shutdowns.

Work with the engineering team to resolve issues and implement improvements.

Utilize diagnostic tools and software to pinpoint issues with inverters, panel systems, or electrical equipment.

Safety and Compliance:

Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during maintenance and operation activities.

Ensure the plant complies with all relevant local, national, and environmental regulations.

Conduct safety audits and training for maintenance personnel.

Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials, such as chemicals and waste products, following environmental guidelines.

Asset Management :

Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and other necessary equipment for maintenance.

Work with procurement to manage stock levels of spare parts and arrange timely orders for replacements.

Maintain detailed records of the plants assets and their condition.

System Upgrades and Enhancements:

Identify opportunities for system upgrades or improvements to optimize energy output and system reliability.

Coordinate with engineering teams to integrate new technologies or equipment upgrades.

Assess the performance of new components or systems being installed.

Team Coordination and Management:

Supervise a team of technicians and other O&M staff, providing guidance and support.

Schedule and prioritize maintenance tasks based on urgency and plant requirements.

Train staff on proper O&M procedures and new technologies or systems.

Emergency Response & Troubleshooting:

Lead the response to emergencies, such as natural disasters or system failures.

Ensure that proper emergency protocols are in place for fire, electrical hazards, and other potential risks.

Commissioning and Handover:

Participate in the commissioning of new solar plants or system upgrades.

Ensure that the plant operates as expected and hand over the system to the operational team.

Cost Management:

Monitor and manage the operational budget for O&M activities.

Optimize operational costs without compromising the quality of service or equipment life.

Overall, the O&M Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the solar plant operates efficiently, safely, and within performance targets while minimizing downtime and maintenance costs.
