1. Examination of a new patient promptly by taking admission history and doing physical assessment in details and recording the same
2. Initiating and completing all documentation related to the indoor patients with signatures.
3. Communicating with the consultant whenever a new patient is admitted. Taking instructions regarding investigation to be done and plan of care and details of medications etc. to be administered to the patient and recording the same.
4. Keeping the consultant informed regarding the progress or any change in the patients condition and relevant action taken.
5. Inform the consultant about the reports of the investigations ordered and follow all further orders if any.
6. When a discharge is advised by the consultant a detailed summary must be prepared as advised by the consultant and explained to the patient and his/ her relative prior to the discharge.
7. In case of a referral advised, appropriate reference should be made.
8. Coordinating with other departments for appointments for investigations / procedures / surgeries and booking of OTs or Cath labs as per need.
9. Attend ward rounds with the consultants as required, and be available to discuss further patient management plans.
10. In case of referral outside GH, appropriate appointments must be taken along with the cost associated and communicate the same to the consultant, nurse and the patient / relatives and arrangements for ambulance etc must be made.
11. Handling of MLC, deaths and any other unusual events related to the patients.
12. Taking frequent patient rounds during each shift and record the same.
13. To perform any additional tasks as per hospital policy.
14. Appropriate handover to next duty doctor.
15. Performing procedures basis privileges.
16. Taking consents.
17. Activating codes of hospital basis hospital protocols whenever necessary.
1. Knowledge of and proficiency of principles, practices, ward procedures and current trends in medical practice.
2. Knowledge of medico legal significance and policies.
3. Knowledge of and adherence to policies, procedures and systems in the hospital
4. Knowledge of and adherence to standard precautions and aseptic techniques in all areas of the hospital.
5. Coordinate patient care activities with the consultants, colleagues, other team members and other departments as necessary.
6. Good interpersonal skills
7. Coordinate patients investigations with other departments e.g. taking appointments, tracking and procuring the reports of investigations done.
8. Counseling the patient regarding procedures to be performed if any, need for a particular investigation or form of treatment.
9. Taking appropriate consents on basis of procedures.
