Description
As an Observability Engineer at Autodesk, you will play a crucial role in driving the architecture, scale, and evolution of our global observability platform engineering team. Your responsibilities will include managing Splunk for centralized logging to ensure system health, performance, and uptime. You will configure OpenTelemetry agents across AWS environments, onboard log sources, optimize log formats, and develop field extractions in collaboration with engineering teams. Additionally, you will build and maintain Splunk dashboards, alerts, reports, and knowledge objects, as well as write and refine SPL queries for troubleshooting and operational insight. Your role will involve maintaining Splunk indexes for optimal storage and performance, troubleshooting issues across the logging pipeline, and monitoring AWS logging infrastructure while contributing to capacity planning. You will automate tasks using Python, Bash, or AWS CLI, participate in the logging platform on-call rotation, and align with senior engineers on observability standards and best practices. Supporting SSO/AD integration with Splunk and documenting configurations and SOPs will also be part of your responsibilities. The minimum qualifications for this position include a Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or a related field, along with 3-5 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Observability with a logging focus. You should possess strong Linux command-line and scripting skills (Python/Bash), a solid understanding of OpenTelemetry and log pipelines, and proven experience with Splunk (SPL, dashboards, admin). Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, and CloudWatch is also required. Preferred qualifications for this role include being a Splunk Core Certified User/Power User, experience deploying OTEL agents in production, familiarity with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible, logging experience with Docker/Kubernetes, understanding of AWS observability tools like CloudWatch and X-Ray, and a solid grasp of networking/security in log management.
