Network Administrator

Role & responsibilities

• Primary duties include maintaining the integrity and security of a company's network and the systems that rely on that network. A Network Admin must have knowledge of network connectivity, protocols, network security devices, network types, including LAN, wireless, WAN, L2 & L3 Switching, Firewall, and VPN.
• Networking specialists should monitor network access for bottlenecks, security threats or problems with connectivity. They might also configure and maintain security devices to ensure the safety of company software, systems and data.
• Networking specialists will be responsible for service requests from end users. The specialist needs to be able to diagnose and offer repair instructions remotely, as well as in person.
• Experience with:
• Switching: HP/Cisco L2/L3 switches.
• Wireless Network: Cisco Controllers, APs 2600/2700/3700.
• Firewall & UTM: Cisco ASA and Cisco Meraki.
• VPNs.

Preferred candidate profile

• A bachelor's degree in information technology, networking or any other related field.
• CCNA, CCNP Certification in networking.
• 5 years of working Experience as a network administrator.
• ITIL v3 certification/experience preferred.
• Analyze network data to determine network usage, availability and utilization.
• Configure security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals.
• Configure wide area network (WAN) or local area network (LAN) routers or related equipment.
• Document network support activities.
• Configure and define parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), routers, switches, UTM device, Firewall or related networking equipment.
• Evaluate local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure sufficient availability or speed, to identify network problems, or for disaster recovery purposes.
• Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment.
• Install and configure wireless networking equipment.
• Install network software, including security or firewall software. like diagnostic and Monitoring tools, Reporting tools. Eg Wireshark, Nagios, MRTG, PRTG, OPManager etc.
• Perform routine maintenance to networking components or equipment.
