Medical Social Worker

Role & responsibilities

To design and deliver a daily schedule of social, cognitive, spiritual, and recreational activities tailored to the residents interests, physical and cognitive abilities, and care plans enhancing their overall quality of life and engagement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Activity Planning & Calendar Management

• Prepare a monthly activity calendar with a mix of group, individual, indoor, outdoor, and festive programs.
• Align activities with wellness domains: physical movement, cognitive stimulation, emotional expression, and social bonding.
• Customize participation plans for residents with mobility or cognitive limitations in coordination with pod nurses and physiotherapist.

2. Activity Execution & Resident Engagement

• Facilitate daily group sessions (yoga, games, music, art, etc.) and individual engagement for non-participants.
• Maintain attendance logs and monitor resident responses to activities.
• Encourage participation, identify disengaged residents, and modify plans for inclusion.

3. Events & Celebrations

• Plan and execute birthday celebrations, cultural festivals, special occasions, and family events.
• Coordinate logistics (decor, food, photos, invites) with kitchen, admin, and housekeeping teams.
• Involve external entertainers or volunteers when appropriate.

4. Communication & Documentation

• Share event pictures with families via approved channels and submit weekly engagement reports.
• Document notable resident interactions, preferences, or behavior changes for care team awareness.
• Contribute to resident newsletters or monthly updates with photos and stories.

5. Volunteer & Family Collaboration

• Engage families and external volunteers in suitable activities and events.
• Ensure all external participants follow visitor and safety protocols.
• Coordinate with the Resident Services Lead for visitor permissions and support.

6. Risk Management & Safety

• Ensure all activities are age-appropriate and safe, considering resident mobility, cognition, and medical status.
• Work with nurses or physiotherapist to manage participation risk in physical or outdoor activities.
• Maintain emergency readiness during outings or larger group events.

Criteria Details

* Education

Bachelor's/ Masters in Social Work, Psychology, Recreation Therapy

* Experience

14 years in elderly care, rehabilitation, or lifestyle/enrichment programs

* Knowledge

Geriatric wellness needs, event planning, cognitive stimulation techniques, dementia engagement

* Skills

Group facilitation, creativity, empathy, storytelling, event coordination, photography

* Tools Familiarity

MS Office, mobile camera/photo shoot, basic digital design for posters/ cards

* Behavioral Attributes

Energetic, empathetic, cheerful, inclusive, responsible

* Languages

English and local language proficiency
