The ETP Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). This includes leading a team of engineers and operators, ensuring the plant meets all statutory environmental standards, optimizing treatment efficiency, managing resources, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders for audits, inspections, and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management:
- Lead and supervise the daily operations of the ETP, including physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes.
- Ensure consistent compliance with local (GPCB/CPCB) and national environmental regulations for wastewater discharge.
- Monitor critical parameters such as pH, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, and flow rates.
- Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and preventive maintenance schedules.
Team & Resource Management:
- Supervise a team of engineers, supervisors, and operators; provide training and development.
- Manage manpower planning, shift scheduling, and performance monitoring.
- Maintain inventory of chemicals, spare parts, and consumables required for smooth operations.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure timely submission of reports to pollution control boards and relevant authorities.
- Prepare and maintain all legal, regulatory, and internal documentation related to effluent treatment and hazardous waste handling.
- Coordinate and manage inspections, audits, and reporting requirements from government and certifying bodies (e.g., ISO, EMS, PCB).
Process Optimization:
- Analyze plant performance data to identify areas for improvement in efficiency and cost reduction.
- Recommend and implement process modifications or technological upgrades for better treatment results.
- Collaborate with vendors and consultants for troubleshooting or plant enhancement projects.
Safety & Environmental Responsibility:
- Ensure safety protocols and PPE usage in the ETP area.
- Promote environmental sustainability practices and support initiatives to reduce water pollution and reuse treated water.
- Maintain proper handling and disposal of sludge and hazardous materials.
Qualifications:
Education:
B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Experience:
8 to 15 years of relevant experience in wastewater treatment, with at least 35 years in a managerial or supervisory role in ETP operations.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of ETP/STP processes: primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment systems.
- Familiarity with Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems (if applicable).
- Strong understanding of environmental laws and compliance requirements (CPCB, GPCB).
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management.
