Job Summary: The Lead Product Design Engineer at InsideFPV will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive design and development of our cutting-edge drone products, from conceptualization to end product. This role involves ensuring design compliance, optimizing for reliability and performance, and considering electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, especially for defense drones. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, leveraging expertise in CAD, materials science, structural analysis, and regulatory documentation. Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Direct and oversee a specialized team focused on product design, structural integrity, and regulatory compliance. Cultivate a culture of innovation and collaboration within the team. Mentor team members, fostering professional growth and development. Product Design and Analysis: Lead the design process, ensuring designs are innovative, functional, and optimized for performance and manufacturability. Conduct comprehensive finite element analysis (FEA) to predict structural performance under various conditions. Collaborate with CAD designers, materials scientists, and manufacturing experts to refine and validate designs. Design for Compliance and Reliability: Develop and implement strategies for Design for Reliability (DfR), ensuring long-term performance and durability. Perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential issues. Apply Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) principles to streamline production and enhance product quality. Coordinate with regulatory bodies and prepare necessary documentation for type certification. Ensure compliance with global structural analysis standards such as Eurocode, ASCE/SEI 7, AISC 360, IS 800, IS 456, and IS 3370 adapted for drone applications. Consider EMI/EMC requirements and ensure designs meet defense standards like JSS 55555. Technical Expertise: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of design engineering principles, FEA software, materials technology, and regulatory standards. Provide technical leadership in solving complex design challenges and integrating structural considerations with other engineering disciplines within the product development process. Project Management: Manage project timelines and resources to meet key milestones and deliverables. Work closely with project managers and other department leads to ensure cohesive project execution. Prioritize tasks and manage team workload to ensure efficient progress. Quality Assurance: Define and uphold quality standards for design and analysis processes. Develop and implement testing strategies to validate structural integrity, compliance, and performance. Documentation and Communication: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for design validation, regulatory compliance, and type certification. Ensure clear and effective communication within the team and across departments. Regularly update senior management on project status, highlighting successes and addressing challenges promptly. Qualifications: Education: Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Experience: Demonstrated experience in product design, structural analysis, and regulatory compliance, preferably in the drone, aerospace, or related industries. Proven track record of leading engineering projects from concept to production. Skills: Expertise in CAD and FEA tools and methodologies. Excellent project management capabilities with a focus on delivering results. Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
